It's been a minute since Unscripted and Monday Night Win(e)d Down have hit your inbox, so I wanted to pop in with a hello. The reality of having a school-aged kiddo and another about to turn a year old is hitting hard. I've learned one very important lesson:
Time bends in weird ways in the summer.
Summer camp starts at different times than daycare, and that changes week over week. In order to get any semblance of work done on my novel and BEAM, I've had to be creative: 5 am writing sprints (when Evie would sleep until 6 am), leaving early to sit for a few minutes before pickups, thinking through podcast names while getting pummeled with water balloons. I even resurrected a pandemic work hack: parking outside Starbucks and working from the car.
It feels like I'm getting a lot done and accomplishing nothing, all at once. But that hasn't stopped me and my team from doing incredible things behind the scenes. I didn't expect summer to lay a new foundation for Amy Kugler as a writing portal and BEAM as a movement, but it did.
There are some big things on the horizon, and I can't wait to share them.
In the meantime, we're going to take a quick break from the mailings during the summer months while things are under construction. Know that I haven't forgotten you - I'm just a little busy with the impromptu ice cream runs, pool days, and vital mid-day naps (we have a teething kiddo. IYKYK.)
I hope you're finding ways to beat the heat, enjoy the sunshine, and see a movie. (C'mon Barbie let's go party!)
What We’re Watching
A lighter take on the news this time:
You must watch this ad for France's women's World Cup team or we can't be friends. Sorry not sorry.
If you follow the Royals and are intrigued by how sartorial choices play a role in conveying a message, you must follow Elizabeth Holmes (not the Theranos one.) She was just on the TODAY Show walking audiences through the particulars.
Kelly Corrigan's conversation about building a creative life with artist Timothy Goodman on Kelly Corrigan Wonders resonated deeply. I mean, this guy did a basketball court mural for Kevin Durant's nonprofit!
Seriously, though. The Barbie Movie marketing machine is firing on all cylinders.
I'm still buzzing over Elise Loehnen's discussion about fascia being the "WiFi of the body" with Lauren Roxburgh for Pulling The Thread. Hold please while I grab my foam roller and torture my ACL.
Made You Laugh
Nora, I've won this award a few times this week also. Let's make trophies to put on our shelves. Click to watch the clip.
